Spasov & Bratanov is among the first law firms in Bulgaria to have successfully obtained approval under the newly introduced foreign direct investment (FDI) screening regime. The transaction concerned the acquisition of the entire capital of an energy producing company by Bulgaria Solar EOOD, ultimately owned by an American citizen. Our experience demonstrates that, with the right guidance, obtaining FDI clearance can be both smooth and efficient.

Under the recently introduced FDI regime, certain transactions and investments in Bulgaria are subject to prior approval by the Inter-Ministerial Council. As more deals come under review, businesses and investors will need trusted legal advisors to anticipate requirements, prepare submissions, and engage effectively with the authorities. Our team stands ready to assist clients in assessing whether their transactions fall within the scope of the new regime and in securing timely approvals.

This matter was led by Vassil Hadjov, Founding Partner, and Krasimir Mitkov, Senior Associate.
